Earthbound 64

If I could only describe the Earthbound series with one word it would be WEIRD. Being weird though also makes the series unique. Earthbound is extreme fantasy.

Earthbound 64 was originally planned for the 64DD, and now that the 64DD is no where in sight, the title has been switched to a 32 Mega Byte cartridge. There should not be much to worry about though. The 64DD disks are 64 Mega Bytes large, but not all of it was even going to be used. A nice chunk of room was going to be used for rewriteability. There is still hope for a 64DD add-on of the game but it is not likely.

The games size is going to be HUGE. The game will be split into chapters. The game will span many years. In each chapter you will be in control of a different character. Going from chapter to chapter the World will change around you depending on some of the decisions you make.

It was originally planned that Earthbound 64 would use the 64DDs rewriteability to its fullest. Now that the 64DD is quite literally canned, this idea has been altered. Now that the 64DD is quite literally canned, this idea has been altered.

With the 64DD, the game would have been completely interactive, every little detail would change depending on what you do making each game a bit different.

Now there are few paths within the game depending on what you do. It is no where near the interactivity that the 64DD would have possessed, but it is better than nothing. Say you pick up some money you should not have, then one of your characters could die, do not pick up and they live. Simple as that. Just little things like this will be included.

The games graphics are rich and colorful. Earthbound 64 will probably take use of the RAM Expansion for the Nintendo 64. The advantages would be huge towns and villages with tons of people swarming through the streets all at excellent frame rates.

From the pictures from the unfinished game, you can clearly see the graphics are great. You can see far into the horizon with no pop-up or draw-in. each character is composed of great numbers of polygons.

With all the towns, forests, and pure area to cover in Earthbound 64, there are also many characters to interact with. As time progresses, so will the characters you come in contact with. Some characters will go from good to evil and evil to good.

Nothing is really known about the storyline of Earthbound 64. Details on the storyline probably will not be released until the game reaches completion.

The battle system is also unknown. We suspect that it will be turn based like most other RPGs. Based on the series, the battles will probably be altered in some weird way =-)
