With characters from
previous adventures and gameplay that borrows from several other titles,
Climax Landers is the newest turn based RPG by Climax Entertainment. The
game, itself, takes place in a complex and detailed world. Landers is
full of plot twists that takes the player from Medieval Europe like environments,
all the way through modern day Japan.
The story centers around the hero, Sword, whom is challenged by an old
man to solve the mysteries of this world. Sword gathers the customary
group of adventurers to help him in his travels. Ryle, an elf (appeared
in Land Stalkers), is a talented thief and roams the land in search of
treasure. Rao, a lion/human, is primarily a fighter; but cautious in his
approach to the world. Lady, a human (appeared in Lady Stalker), is a
deadly martial artist. Marlin, an elf (appeared in Shining in the Darkness),
is a nosy, powerful wizard. Marion, a marionette, has destructive powers
and a mysterious past. Together, they must find what created this world,
what it's motivations are, even if it is possible to leave.
Climax hopes to extend gameplay by introducing the ability to capture
monsters, save them to the VMS, and have the player raise them. Replayability
will come in the form of auto-generated dungeons and reforming land. This
means that no two games will be the same. Previous games that have attempted
this were less than stellar. If Climax can pull it off, they will definitely
have a winning title on their hands.
